
12-YEAR-OLD GIRL, 16-YEAR-OLD BOY CHARGED IN SHOOTING DEATH OF CAMDEN TEEN FOOTBALL STAR
Two juveniles are facing charges in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old Camden teen inside a home last month.
Xyere Brooks, a sophomore at KIPP High School and a standout football player, was fatally shot on June 6 inside a Camden residence. Authorities say a 16-year-old boy brought a firearm into the home, and a 12-year-old girl later discharged the weapon, striking Brooks.
Both juveniles surrendered to authorities on Tuesday.
The 12-year-old girl is charged with Manslaughter and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, while the 16-year-old boy is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Both suspects were released under court-imposed conditions and are scheduled to appear in court on July 23.
Brooks’s death has shaken the Camden community, where he was known as a promising athlete and student.
