Editorial Standards

How we decide what to publish, where our information comes from, how we handle mistakes, and how paid content is kept separate from the stories.
Ownership and Independence
JerseyTalks.com and the JerseyTalks social channels are owned and operated by Jersey Talks LLC, an independent, New Jersey-based company. We are not affiliated with any government body, political party, or other media company. We are funded by advertising, paid event placements, and sponsorships.
Advertisers and sponsors do not control our independent coverage. They may review their own advertising materials; payment does not entitle them to approve independent stories or change our reporting on their business.
Sourcing and Credit
Stories are built from official statements, public records, on-the-ground footage, and material shared by the community. We say in the story where information came from, and we do not invent facts, quotes, or details.
When we share someone else's photo or video, we credit the creator by name or handle and link to the original where we can. We only use material we have the rights to publish, whether through the creator's permission, a license, our submission terms, or a legal exception. If you believe we have used your work without permission, see our DMCA Policy.
Crime and Court Coverage
Charges are allegations, not findings. Anyone named in a crime story is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court, and our crime stories carry that reminder.
We attribute arrests and charges to the agency that announced them, we do not name minors accused of crimes unless an agency has released the name and the public interest requires it, and we do not publish private individuals' home addresses.
If charges are dropped or a person is acquitted, we update the story when we learn of it. Email us with a court record or official notice and we will add the outcome.
Corrections
When we get something wrong we fix it. Factual errors are corrected in the story itself, with a note at the end stating what changed and when. Typos and formatting fixes that do not change the meaning are made without a note.
To request a correction, email contact@jerseytalks.com with the subject line "Correction request", the link to the story, what you believe is wrong, and any document or source that supports the correction. We review every request and aim to respond within 5 business days. Requests to remove accurate reporting because it is unflattering are declined.
Sponsored and Paid Content
Paid event placements are labeled "Sponsored" on the site, and social posts made for advertisers carry a paid-partnership or sponsored label on the platform where they appear. Advertising placements are publishing services: we distribute the advertiser's material, and the advertiser is responsible for its claims.
Community Submissions
Community submissions are subject to editorial review before publication. We check the rights basis and available consent information; older submissions may require additional confirmation. Credit alone is not permission, and filming in public does not resolve privacy or safety concerns. We generally decline footage that amplifies violence, private disputes, or humiliation of identifiable private individuals without a public-interest justification. We protect identifiable minors and may require parent or guardian permission. We may edit submissions for length, clarity, and safety, or decline them.
Removal Requests
Copyright claims go through our DMCA Policy. Privacy, safety, and other removal requests can be sent to contact@jerseytalks.com. We weigh the public interest in the story against the harm described, and we respond to every request.
To close an account or request review of stored personal information, use our Data Deletion Instructions. Account closure does not automatically remove submitted media, a published story, an event, or a social post. Include the specific links and the privacy, safety, accuracy, or rights concern when requesting content removal. We honor removal and privacy obligations under applicable law.
