A Friday afternoon scooter ride ended with a 16-year-old fighting for his life after a collision with a vehicle in Newark.

Newark police responded to the area of Clinton Avenue and Wright Street, near Elizabeth Avenue, at approximately 3:14 p.m. following reports of a person struck, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

Authorities said the teen was riding a scooter when he collided with a vehicle at the intersection.

He was taken to University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver remained at the scene, police said.

Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the collision. The crash remains under investigation.
