An 18-year-old was stabbed twice in the chest after police say he stepped in to help another teen who was being attacked at a Bergenfield park.
Police responded to Veterans Memorial Park on New Bridge Road around 8:44 p.m. Friday, where they found the New Milford teen suffering from two stab wounds.
Investigators say two Bergenfield teens, ages 16 and 17, had planned to attack a 17-year-old from Dumont following a pickup basketball game. When the 18-year-old intervened, police say he was stabbed.
The two teens fled in a gray Nissan Altima but were located and taken into custody shortly afterward.
The 18-year-old was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center in stable condition with injuries that appeared to be non-life-threatening.
The 16-year-old faces aggravated assault, weapons and evidence-tampering charges. The 17-year-old was charged with simple assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
Both are being held at the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center pending further court proceedings.
