BAYONNE FUGITIVE ARRESTED IN COLOMBIA FOR THE DEATH OF NJ WOMAN IN 2020

Erick Acosta, a 35-year-old man from Bayonne, was arrested by the United States Marshals Service in connection with the 2020 death of Crystal Ojeda.

He faces charges of Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Tampering with Evidence.

Acosta was apprehended at Newark Liberty International Airport and is awaiting his first court appearance at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

He was extradited from Colombia, where he was arrested in 2022 based on a U.S. provisional arrest request. Ojeda was found dead at her residence with visible trauma, and the cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head and body, ruled as a homicide.
