A Hackensack man has been arrested after a child was revived from a suspected fentanyl overdose inside a Bergen County home over Memorial Day weekend.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, 34-year-old Oluwatobi “Tobi” Bamisile of Hackensack faces three counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and one count of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Authorities said Hackensack police officers and firefighters responded to a residence around 8:05 p.m. on May 24 after receiving reports of an unresponsive child.

First responders immediately began life-saving measures and administered Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. Officials said the child regained consciousness and was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Hackensack Police Department allegedly found fentanyl-containing pills inside the home that were accessible to children.

Prosecutors say two other children also came into contact with the pills, and one child briefly placed a pill in their mouth before spitting it out.

Bamisile was arrested on May 26 and remains held at the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance.

Authorities have not released the ages of the children involved or provided an update on the child’s current condition.
