DEADLY AMBUSH: TRENTON MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING GIRLFRIEND, SHOOTING ANOTHER WOMAN

A 36-year-old Trenton man has been arrested after fatally shooting his girlfriend and wounding her friend early Sunday, authorities said.

Lamont Truitt is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, carjacking, and multiple weapons offenses, according to Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey and Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson.

Around 6 a.m., police responded to reports of gunfire near Oakland Street and found a 25-year-old woman shot in the leg on Coolidge Avenue. She told officers that Alyssia Murphy, 32, was in a Toyota Camry with her when Truitt approached, argued with Murphy, and opened fire. The friend escaped before Truitt drove off in the Camry.

About two hours later, Murphy was found dead inside the vehicle in Lower Makefield Township, Pennsylvania, near East Ferry Road and the Delaware Canal.

Truitt later turned himself in at the Trenton Police Department. Prosecutors have filed a motion to detain him pending trial.

Anyone with information is asked to contact MCHTF Detective Luis Vega at 609-989-6406 or submit an anonymous tip through the prosecutor’s office website.
