An active investigation is underway after a late-night police pursuit in Woodbridge Township ended in a violent crash that left one woman dead and multiple others seriously injured.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability has taken over the case following the fatal collision, which happened just before midnight on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Middlesex County.

According to preliminary details, a Woodbridge police officer began pursuing a Nissan Maxima traveling southbound on Route 1 at a high rate of speed. Roughly one minute into the chase, the Nissan crashed into another civilian vehicle near Gill Lane.

Authorities say:

β€’ A female passenger inside the Nissan was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m. Friday
β€’ Multiple occupants from both vehicles suffered serious injuries
β€’ The injured were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital
β€’ A deceased dog was also discovered inside the Nissan

Officials emphasized that the police vehicle was not directly involved in the collision.

The identities of those involved have not yet been released.

The investigation remains active.
