🚨 Delivery Driver Killed In Newark Carjacking
A routine delivery turned deadly in Essex County after a man was crushed during a carjacking in Newark over the weekend. Authorities say the incident happened Saturday around 12:44 p.m. in the 800 block of Bergen Street.
The victim, 46-year-old Jhon Aponte Alarcon of Elizabeth, had stepped away from his vehicle while making a delivery when a suspect jumped inside and tried to take off.
Police say Alarcon attempted to stop the theft by holding onto the vehicle as it sped off. Moments later, the car crashed into a parked vehicle, flipped, and fatally crushed him.
The suspect then bailed out and ran from the scene on foot. Alarcon was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where he was later pronounced dead. No arrests have been made, and authorities have not released a description of the suspect as the investigation remains ongoing.
