A former Newark Academy wrestling coach is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old after allegedly driving the teen to a Livingston hospital parking lot earlier this year.
John Kane, 39, of Sparta, was charged with four counts of sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators allege the assault happened April 26 after Kane transported the 15-year-old to a parking lot at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Prosecutors said the teenager is not a student at Newark Academy.
Kane previously coached wrestling at Newark Academy and had also been involved with the Livingston Youth Wrestling Program, West Essex Regional School District, the Township of Livingston and The Work Family Connection, according to prosecutors.
Authorities announced the charges Wednesday, Aug. 26, and said the investigation is still active.
