A Hainesport man has been charged with murder after his aunt was found stabbed to death inside her Lumberton apartment, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office announced.

Jason Mutschler, 40, of Hainesport was arrested Saturday and charged with murder and weapons-related offenses, authorities said. The victim, identified as 60-year-old Vanessa Sturtevent, was discovered deceased by a relative inside her home at the Sterling Glen Apartments on Eayrestown Road in Lumberton.

An autopsy by the Burlington County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Sturtevent's death a homicide. According to authorities, she suffered multiple stab wounds to the head and neck, as well as blunt force trauma to the face and head.

Investigators quickly identified Mutschler as a suspect. New Jersey State Police located him in Hainesport and transported him to the prosecutor's office for questioning. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

Mutschler is being held pending court proceedings. The investigation remains active and ongoing, authorities said.
