HASBROUCK HEIGHTS MAN INDICTED FOR OBSTRUCTION IN FATAL RIDGEFIELD SCOOTER CRASH
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the indictment of 61-year-old Timothy C. Moots, former Fire Chief, from Hasbrouck Heights on charges related to obstructing the investigation of a fatal car accident in Ridgefield.
The accident occurred on the evening of April 14, 2024, when Ridgefield Police responded to a collision between a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a motorized scooter at the intersection of Shaler Boulevard and Edgewater Avenue.
The crash resulted in the death of 15-year-old Serenity Law of Ridgefield, who was riding the scooter.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit launched a joint investigation at the scene. Authorities later determined that Moots had provided false information to law enforcement in an attempt to minimize his involvement and interfere with the investigation.
The charges against Moots were made public on September 10, 2024, following a Grand Jury indictment. He is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack for an arraignment.
