
JERSEY CITY NATIVE, MALCOLM-JAMAL WARNER, BELOVED ‘COSBY SHOW’ STAR AND MULTI-TALENTED ARTIST, DIES AT 54
Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Jersey Native, best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has died at age 54. The actor drowned while vacationing with his family in Limón Province, Costa Rica, on July 20, 2025, according to PEOPLE.
Warner rose to fame in the 1980s as the quick-witted teen son in one of America’s most beloved sitcoms. His performance earned an Emmy nomination and helped reshape the image of young Black men on TV.
Beyond The Cosby Show, Warner starred in Malcolm & Eddie, Reed Between the Lines, and appeared in Sons of Anarchy, The Resident, and American Crime Story. A Grammy-winning musician and spoken-word poet, Warner was also active behind the camera as a director and producer.
In 2024, he launched the Not All Hood podcast, highlighting diverse Black stories.
Warner is survived by his wife, daughter, and mother. Tributes continue to pour in, remembering him as a trailblazer in entertainment and a voice of quiet brilliance.
