#JERSEYCLASSIC WHITNEY HOUSTON

This week #JerseyClassic belongs to Whitney Elizabeth Houston, a Newark, NJ native, was an iconic American singer, actress, and philanthropist. She was born on August 9, 1963 and was known as "the Voice," she was one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 220 million records sold worldwide. Her accomplishments include seven consecutive number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, numerous Grammy Awards, and induction into multiple halls of fame.

Her influence extended beyond music, as she made significant contributions to film and charitable endeavors.

Whitney Houston, starting her singing career in Newark, rose to fame under Arista Records with guidance from Clive Davis. Her albums like "Whitney Houston" and "Whitney" topped charts and featured hit singles, breaking barriers for black female artists on MTV. She ventured into acting with "The Bodyguard," leading to a successful film and music career, with her rendition of "I Will Always Love You" becoming an iconic hit.

Despite personal struggles, including drug use and a tumultuous marriage to Bobby Brown, Houston's talent remained undeniable. Her tragic death in February 11, 2012 shocked the world, but her legacy as a music and film icon lives on.
