Kearny Man Injured In Paterson Shooting; Suspect In Custody

A Paterson man, Rafael A. Cabrera Perea, 22, was arrested on September 9, 2024, in connection with a June 17 shooting that injured a Kearny resident. The incident occurred near Prospect and Ellison Streets in Paterson, with the victim, a 26-year-old man, later arriving at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center with non-fatal gunshot wounds.

Authorities identified Cabrera Perea as the suspect and took him into custody without incident. He is charged with first-degree attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses. The investigation is ongoing.
