Knicks Keep Historic Nba Finals Game Ball, Pull It from $3 Million Auction
What happened
The New York Knicks are holding onto one of the most iconic pieces of memorabilia in franchise history.
Just 30 minutes before bidding was set to begin Tuesday morning, the NBA announced that the Game 4 ball from the Knicks' unforgettable comeback victory over the Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals had been pulled from auction and will remain with the organization.
"The game ball from Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals holds significant importance to the New York Knicks, their fans, and the city, and will remain with the team as a lasting piece of franchise history," an NBA spokesperson said. "As such, it will not be included in Sotheby's June 30 auction."
The ball, which was expected to sell for around $3 million, instead will stay in New York as a permanent part of the franchise's history.
The decision comes after one of the greatest moments the Knicks have ever produced.
Facing a 29-point deficit in Game 4, New York stormed back behind an NBA Finals-record 14 three-pointers in the second half.
With just seconds remaining and the Knicks trailing 106-105, Finals MVP Jalen Brunson launched a deep three that hit the front of the rim. OG Anunoby, who had inbounded the ball moments earlier, soared above everyone to tip it in with 1.2 seconds left, giving New York a 107-106 lead they would never surrender.
The dramatic finish became an instant Knicks classic and helped swing the momentum of the Finals.
While collectors were ready to spend millions for the historic basketball, the Knicks ultimately decided some memories are simply priceless.
