Police responded around 8:25 p.m. after a ShotSpotter activation detected gunfire in the 80s block of Park Place.

As officers searched the area, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest near Broad and Market streets, several blocks from where the gunfire was initially detected.

Emergency crews rushed the victim to University Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

Preliminary reports indicate the suspect fled the area and remains at large.
