FREEHOLD, NJ — A man was shot Thursday afternoon near the Freehold Public Library, prompting a major police response in the area.
Authorities say the shooting happened around 5:11 p.m. on East Main Street between South and Center streets.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Freehold Borough Police are actively investigating.
Officials described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Residents are still being asked to avoid the immediate area while the investigation continues.
The Freehold Public Library confirmed its staff is safe but announced it will remain closed through Monday following the incident.
