Manchester Man Sentenced to 6 Years After Firing at Bicyclist in Toms River

A Manchester Township man has been sentenced to six years in state prison for his role in a 2024 shooting in Toms River where multiple shots were fired at a man riding a bicycle.

Anthony Zigarelli, 21, was sentenced September 11 after previously pleading guilty to aggravated assault and being a certain person prohibited from possessing a weapon.

The shooting happened around 4:05 p.m. on May 14, 2024, near Camino Medio and Camino Verde in Toms River.

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was riding his bicycle through the area when he passed Zigarelli and Anthony Ventrice, who were standing outside a vehicle.

Authorities said Ventrice pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots toward the bicyclist.

The two then got into the vehicle and drove past the victim, with Zigarelli firing additional shots in his direction, prosecutors said.

Despite the gunfire, the bicyclist was not hit and was not injured.

Zigarelli was arrested later that month and had remained in the Ocean County Jail since May 29, 2024.

His six-year aggravated assault sentence falls under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, meaning he must serve at least 85% before becoming eligible for parole.

He also received a five-year sentence, with five years of parole ineligibility, on the weapons charge. The sentences will run at the same time.

Ventrice, who was a juvenile at the time of the shooting, was later transferred to adult court and pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in June.

His sentencing remains pending.
