A 32-year-old New Jersey woman has been identified as the victim killed during a stabbing rampage in Times Square Monday afternoon.
Erin Piacenti, of Chester, was fatally stabbed near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue around 4:30 p.m., according to authorities.
Piacenti worked in New York City as a vice president at Bank of America and was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Fordham University School of Law.
The attack unfolded after police say 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros stabbed a 68-year-old man in the abdomen shortly after he exited the subway near West 41st Street.
Cisneros, who authorities say was armed with two kitchen knives, then continued toward 42nd Street, where Piacenti was stabbed in what NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch described as an unprovoked attack.
Officers later confronted Cisneros in Times Square. Police say she charged at officers while still armed with the knives, prompting officers to open fire. Cisneros was fatally shot.
Piacenti was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The 68-year-old man survived the attack.
Piacenti had recently celebrated her second wedding anniversary on Aug. 10, according to social media posts.
The killing has brought the violence in one of New York City's busiest areas particularly close to home for New Jersey, with the victim identified as a Morris County resident who commuted into Manhattan for her career.
