NJ Babysitter Accused of Child Sex Assault Could Take Plea Deal, Prosecutors Hint
What happened
A New Jersey babysitter accused of sexually assaulting a toddler could be headed toward a plea deal, according to prosecutors.
During a hearing on Monday, Aug. 3, in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River, Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Lynn Juan told the judge that plea negotiations are underway and requested additional time to work out the details.
Prosecutors allege a Snapchat video showing Victoria Anne Cranmer, 25, laughing while a toddler touched her private parts is the primary piece of evidence in the case. Court documents also indicate that at least one other mother whose children Cranmer babysat had previously raised concerns.
Cranmer is charged with sexual assault, manufacturing child sexual abuse material, possession of child sexual abuse material, and endangering the welfare of a child. If convicted on all charges, she could face more than 30 years in prison.
No plea agreement has been finalized, and the case remains ongoing. As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Cranmer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
