Nj Home Intruder Caught Trying To Sexually Assault Sleeping Victim Subdued By Residents: Police
A terrifying home invasion in Hackensack this weekend escalated into an attempted sexual assault — but quick action from people inside the home stopped it.
Authorities say 36-year-old Jermin Fordyce broke into the residence by crawling through a bathroom window before climbing into the bed of a sleeping victim.
Investigators allege he began removing his pants and attempted to sexually assault her while also strangling the victim.
But the situation took a turn.
Other residents inside the home heard a struggle, rushed into the room, and physically subdued the suspect, holding him until police arrived.
Police took Fordyce into custody at the scene.
He is now facing multiple charges, including:
- Home invasion burglary
- Attempted aggravated sexual assault
- Aggravated assault
Officials confirmed he was not known to anyone inside the home.
The victim’s age has not been released, and the case is now being handled by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.
⚠️ Fordyce was also treated for injuries sustained during the struggle and remains in custody pending a detention hearing.
