A Toms River man has been sentenced to six years in federal prison after traveling overseas to engage in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl.
Jacob Bauer, 29, of Toms River, was sentenced to 72 months in prison by a federal judge in Trenton after pleading guilty to engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign country.
Court records show that in December 2023, Bauer traveled from the United States to Norway, where he met the underage victim at a hotel and engaged in sexual activity. After returning home, authorities say Bauer continued communicating with the victim and bragged to others about what he had done — while fully acknowledging the victim was a minor.
The case came to light after members of an online community Bauer participated in published his information online, prompting further investigation.
In addition to prison time, Bauer was sentenced to 10 years of supervised release, ordered to forfeit property used in the offense, and will be required to register as a sex offender under federal law.
