New Jersey State Police are investigating a police-involved shooting that left one person critically injured Sunday afternoon after a multi-agency pursuit ended on Interstate 280 near Exit 11 in Orange.

Around 2:10 p.m., suspects reportedly abandoned an Acura and fled on foot before State Police opened fire, striking one suspect in the head.

It’s unclear if the suspect was armed or if gunfire was exchanged. Video circulating online captured what sounded like two dozen shots as the suspect fell while trying to flee.

Two others were arrested nearby and are now in State Police custody.
A section of I-280 remains closed as investigators process the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
