Severe Teacher Shortage Hits Paterson Schools Just Before New Academic Year

Paterson’s school district is facing over 150 job vacancies as the new school year approaches. To manage the shortage, the district plans to use per diem substitutes, combine classes when possible, and implement a virtual teaching platform. Efforts are ongoing to recruit more educators, with the vacancies accounting for about 7% of K-12 teaching positions.
