A 25-year-old Paterson man has been charged with first-degree attempted murder following a late-night shooting along Route 80 in Totowa, authorities said.

After an investigation by the New Jersey State Police, Fabian Perez was charged in connection with the January 31, 2026 incident near Route 80 West and Union Boulevard. Troopers responded just before midnight and found two victims—an 18-year-old woman from Teaneck and a 36-year-old man from Paterson. Neither was struck by gunfire.

Investigators later identified Perez as the suspected shooter. He was arrested without incident on February 6 during a multi-agency operation involving state, local, and federal authorities. The charges were announced by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

If convicted, Perez faces significant prison time, including 10 to 20 years for attempted murder under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act.
