A 46-year-old Somerville woman was found dead inside her Brookside Avenue home after police responded to a welfare check Thursday evening.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said officers found Alyne Espinal with multiple lacerations to her chest, neck and thigh shortly before 7:30 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband, 55-year-old Ignacio Espinal, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and third-degree hindering.
What remains unclear
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a possible motive or what allegedly led to Espinal’s death.
Prosecutors said the investigation remains active and could evolve as detectives interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records and analyze forensic evidence.
The charges are accusations. Ignacio Espinal is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
