A Burlington Township man was charged with murder this week after allegedly killing his mother and fleeing in her car, only to crash it a day later on a North Jersey highway, officials said.

Orsman Summerville, 40, is accused of bludgeoning his 72-year-old mother, Enid Wordsworth, inside their shared home. Family members discovered her body on July 6, prompting an investigation by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities say Summerville fled the scene in his mother’s vehicle, which he later crashed on I-287 in Morris County on July 7. He was hospitalized with injuries from the crash.

After being released from the hospital Tuesday, Summerville was booked into Burlington County Jail and charged with first-degree murder. Authorities have not disclosed a motive or further details about the crash.
