🚨 Update: Newark Carjacking Death

The delivery driver killed during a carjacking in Newark has been identified as 46-year-old Jhon Aponte Alarcon of Elizabeth.

Authorities say the incident happened Saturday around 12:44 p.m. on Bergen Street after Alarcon stepped away from his vehicle during a delivery. A suspect jumped inside and attempted to flee.

Alarcon tried to stop the theft by holding onto the vehicle as it sped off.

Moments later, the car crashed into a parked vehicle, flipped, and fatally crushed him.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and remains at large.
