A person was injured Monday morning after a vehicle exploded in Totowa, according to preliminary emergency dispatch reports.
The explosion happened shortly before 5:40 a.m. near 12 Continental Circle, prompting a response from police, firefighters, and EMS after reports of a vehicle explosion with one victim.
Preliminary information indicates the vehicle may have belonged to a plumbing contractor. Investigators are examining whether an acetylene tank inside the vehicle may have leaked and exploded when the vehicle was started. Authorities have not officially confirmed the cause.
The blast completely destroyed the vehicle, sending debris across the roadway and nearby sidewalk. Fire officials reported there was no active fire when crews arrived, and EMS treated at least one injured person at the scene.
Building officials and crime scene investigators were also called in as authorities worked to document the scene and determine what led to the explosion.
Officials have not released the condition of the injured person.
The investigation remains ongoing.
