VIOLENT ROBBERY ROCKS BERGENLINE AVENUE; SUSPECT CAPTURED WITHIN HOURS

Authorities in Guttenberg and West New York swiftly arrested a suspect early Friday morning after a man was violently assaulted and robbed of his scooter, according to the Guttenberg Police Department.

Just after midnight on April 25, West New York Police encountered a man near 64th Street and Bergenline Avenue who reported being attacked and robbed a few blocks away. Guttenberg officers quickly responded to assist.

The victim suffered multiple injuries, including facial and body lacerations, and the loss of part of a tooth. As medics treated him, officers gathered a description of the suspect and the stolen scooter.

Shortly after, West New York detectives spotted a man matching the description. He was found with a scooter and bloodstained clothing. After reviewing surveillance footage and obtaining a positive ID from the victim, police arrested 36-year-old Ariel Sandoval-Paulino of North Bergen.

Sandoval-Paulino was processed at the Guttenberg Police Department and charged with robbery and disorderly conduct. He is being held at the Hudson County Correctional Center.

Guttenberg Police Chief Frank Pelaez praised the teamwork between both departments, crediting their quick coordination for the prompt arrest.

ā€œI would like to thank my officers and the West New York detectives and officers for their swift response and outstanding work,ā€ Chief Pelaez said.
