WEST NEW YORK MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the arrest of a man in connection with a sexual assault that took place in West New York in July.

Carlos Ruiz Castro, a West New York resident, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force on Friday, August 9, 2024. Ruiz Castro is facing several serious charges, including aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, sexual assault, aggravated assault, and aggravated criminal sexual contact.

He was arrested on Jackson Avenue in Hackensack and has been transferred to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he is being held awaiting his first court appearance.

The charges stem from an incident reported on Saturday, July 27, 2024, when a 40-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted by an unknown man around 1:30 a.m. near Hudson Avenue and 51st Street in West New York.

The victim stated that the man grabbed her by the hair before assaulting her.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit and the West New York Police Department for their efforts in the investigation and arrest, with support from the U.S. Marshals Service.
