WOMAN ATTACKED BY MAN WITH KNIFE AT NEWARK AIRPORT
A North Carolina woman, Melissa Mauldin, was randomly attacked at Newark Liberty International Airport when a man, Xiong Jin, approached her from behind and stabbed her in the face. The attack, which occurred in Terminal A, left Mauldin with a serious facial wound requiring 14 stitches and caused fractures to her cheekbone and nose. Jin was arrested by Port Authority police and charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. Mauldin, who was visiting the area for a friend's wedding, expressed her shock and loss of security following the unprovoked attack. Jin, who has a history of assault and was recently released from prison, had no apparent reason for being at the airport other than to cause harm. Mauldin hopes he remains incarcerated to prevent further incidents.
