A New Jersey grand jury just indicted a Woodbridge police sergeant in a fatal police shooting that’s now turning into a major case.

Prosecutors say Sgt. Marco Bruno is facing first-degree aggravated manslaughter after opening fire and killing 35-year-old Aamir Allen during a late-night encounter in 2025.

This wasn’t a quick decision — jurors reviewed bodycam footage, surveillance video, 911 calls, and witness testimony before voting to bring charges.

Here’s what happened:

Police were called to Port Reading after reports of a man with a bat damaging cars and assaulting people. Officers say Allen refused multiple commands to drop the bat as they followed him.

Moments later, Sgt. Bruno arrived, gave more commands — then fired six shots.

Allen was taken to the hospital and later died.

Now, nearly a year later, that shooting is leading to serious criminal charges.

⚖️ If convicted, Bruno could face 10 to 30 years in prison.

The state has also released video and 911 audio from the incident as part of transparency rules around police use of force.

This case is far from over.
