48 INDICTED FOR GALLOWAY COCKFIGHTING RING: PROSECUTOR

An Atlantic County Grand Jury has indicted 48 individuals in connection with an elaborate cockfighting ring discovered at a Galloway Township home, authorities announced.

The investigation began when Galloway police uncovered online invitations for an illegal cockfight scheduled for March 2024, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. Acting swiftly, authorities intervened and halted a cockfight in progress inside an arena built specifically for rooster fighting.

On March 9, police executed a search warrant at a residence on the 300 block of S. Bremen Avenue. Upon arrival, a large group of attendees attempted to flee, but officers managed to detain multiple individuals while searching the property.

Disturbing Findings at the Scene

Authorities described the operation as "elaborate," complete with a constructed fighting ring, stadium-style seating, and various cockfighting paraphernalia. Approximately 50 roosters, some in poor health, were found confined in crates, storage boxes, and bags around the arena.

Additionally, four dogs were seized from the home and a backyard shed. Three were being kept in "deplorable conditions," and one required immediate, life-saving surgery.

Organizer Jose Madera and one attendee, Roberto Soto, were not included in the indictment, as Madera had previously pleaded guilty last year.
