AC POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH THEFT OVER MISUSED FUNDS FROM BANK ERROR

LaQuay DuBose, a 37-year-old Atlantic City Police Officer, finds himself in legal trouble after being charged with third-degree theft. The charges stem from his alleged misuse of a substantial sum of money mistakenly deposited into his bank account.

Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office officials said the incident happened  when bank employees accidentally transferred $100,000 into DuBose's checking account on March 21, 2023. The bank quickly identified the error on March 27, 2023, and promptly reversed the transaction and closed DuBose's account. However, it was discovered that during the brief period the funds were in his account, DuBose had allegedly spent over $35,000, leading to an overdraft of $35,903.17.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards and Accountability Unit spearheaded the investigation into the matter.

While these charges position DuBose under a cloud of suspicion, it's important to note that they are merely accusations. As in all criminal cases, the defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
