ACTOR PETER GREENE, A NEW JERSEY NATIVE BEST KNOWN FOR HIS ROLES IN PULP FICTION AND THE MASK, HAS DIED AT THE AGE OF 60.

Greene was found unresponsive Friday afternoon inside his Lower East Side apartment in New York City, according to his longtime manager, Gregg Edwards. Police responded to the Clinton Street residence around 3:25 p.m. and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authorities said no foul play is suspected. The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.

Greene, who grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, is survived by his 16-year-old son, Ryder.

“He was a terrific guy — truly one of the great actors of our generation,” Edwards said. “His heart was as big as they come. I’m going to miss him deeply. He was a great friend.”

Edwards said Greene was scheduled to begin work in January 2026 on an independent thriller titled Mascots, starring Mickey Rourke and directed by Kerry Mondragón. The production team was notified of his death and left “devastated” by the news.

Throughout his career, Greene worked alongside some of Hollywood’s most notable actors and directors. Edwards described his performance as mobster Dorian Tyrell in The Mask, opposite Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz, as “arguably his best role.”

Greene previously spoke openly about his troubled youth. In a 1996 interview with Premiere magazine, he revealed that he ran away from his Montclair home at 15 and lived on the streets of New York City, where he struggled with drug addiction and survival. After a suicide attempt in March 1996, he sought treatment and began his recovery.

In addition to Pulp Fiction and The Mask, Greene’s film credits include Clean, Shaven, Laws of Gravity, Blue Streak, and Training Day.
