New Jersey has filed a lawsuit against Amazon, accusing the retail giant of mistreating pregnant employees and workers with disabilities at its warehouses statewide.

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin says Amazon routinely denied reasonable accommodations, forced employees onto unpaid leave, retaliated against those who sought help, and even fired some workers.

Between 2021 and 2023, Amazon warehouse staff in New Jersey filed over 27,000 accommodation requests—more than one per hour. Officials say many were delayed, denied, or mishandled, pushing workers out of their jobs.

Platkin called the company’s conduct “shameful,” noting that state law requires employers to provide accommodations unless doing so creates undue hardship.

The lawsuit seeks penalties, damages for affected employees, and a court order to end the alleged practices.
