A Brick driver is facing charges after Pennsylvania State Police said her vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a motorcycle, killing two people.

Police said Bernadette Cobb, 55, was driving east on a two-lane road in Luthersburg around 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 12 when an insect flew through her open window. According to a police affidavit, Cobb said she “freaked out,” tried to swipe the bug away and accidentally lowered her head.

Cobb’s passenger tried to grab the wheel, but the vehicle struck a 2013 Harley-Davidson, troopers said. The motorcycle’s driver, Anthony Sones, 34, and passenger Miranda Wormuth, 30, died at the scene. A GoFundMe created by Wormuth’s family described them as partners of 14 years.

Police arrested Cobb at the scene. NJ.com reported that she was charged with homicide and involuntary manslaughter and later posted $100,000 bail. The charges are allegations, not a conviction.

Cobb’s attorney, Brian Manchester, called the crash a “tragic accident” and said his client was handcuffed before an accident reconstructionist examined the crash. “We will defend her vigorously,” Manchester told NJ.com. The report did not list Cobb’s next court date.
