Connor Brown's Breakaway Goal Seals Devils' 2-1 Preseason Win Over Islanders

The Devils opened their 2026 preseason with a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders on Sunday at Prudential Center, capped by a highlight-reel breakaway goal from Connor Brown in the third period.
New York struck first on a power-play goal from Cole Eiserman midway through the second period. New Jersey answered less than three minutes later when Ryan Schmelzer buried a wrist shot to tie it 1-1. Brown put the Devils ahead for good early in the third, splitting the Islanders' defense before beating the goaltender for an unassisted goal.
Devils goaltender David Rittich stopped 23 of 24 shots to help close it out. The two teams meet again Monday night at Prudential Center in the second game of their preseason series.
