CRIPS SHOT-CALLER SENTENCED TO 28 YEARS FOR ORCHESTRATING SHOOTINGS AND DRUG OPERATIONS ACROSS NJ
A high-ranking leader of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips has been sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for his role in a sweeping racketeering conspiracy marked by violent assaults and drug trafficking throughout New Jersey.
Jason Franklin, 41, known by the alias “Freak,” received a 336-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Franklin had previously pleaded guilty to a superseding indictment charging him with conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
Federal prosecutors described Franklin as a central figure in the gang’s operations from 2015 to 2022, overseeing the distribution of narcotics and orchestrating acts of violence across the state.
Court records revealed that Franklin ordered multiple attacks, including a retaliatory killing in Irvington on March 20, 2019, following the murder of a fellow gang member.
Two years later, on April 5, 2021, Franklin allegedly directed a shooting targeting rival gang members. The victim survived but sustained serious injuries.
In addition to prison time, Judge Wigenton ordered Franklin to serve three years of supervised release upon completion of his sentence.
