EDWARD JOHNSTON INDICTED FOR THE DEATH OF 8-YEAR-OLD BOY JAVIER VELEZ
JerseyTalks StaffGalloway Township Resident Indicted for Aggravated Manslaughter, after an investigation revealed that he struck a parked vehicle resulting in the death of an 8-year-old boy Javier Velez from Philadelphia, PA on July 23, 2023.
On July 23, 2023, Javier Velez was killed on the White Horse Pike in Absecon when the family car he was sleeping in was struck by a Nissan Sentra, driven by Edward W. Johnston, 25. Javier, who was on a fishing trip with his dad, had been sleeping in the car at the time of the crash. Subsequent investigation revealed Johnston was allegedly in a state of intoxication that impaired his ability to operate the motor vehicle. It was also determined that Johnston was recklessly speeding when he left the roadway and struck the parked vehicle.
The case was investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Crash Investigation Unit with cooperation from the Absecon City Police Department.
