Travelers across the country — including right here in the New York/New Jersey area — are dealing with major airport delays as TSA staffing hits a breaking point.

Officials say absences among Transportation Security Administration workers have spiked to their highest levels since the partial government shutdown began five weeks ago. Airports serving the region, including those in New York City, are among the hardest hit, with reports showing over a third of TSA staff calling out or not showing up.

The ongoing shutdown has left tens of thousands of Department of Homeland Security employees working without pay since February 13 — and it’s now directly impacting travel.

In response, President Donald Trump announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be deployed to airports starting Monday to help fill the gaps.

The operation will be overseen by White House border czar Tom Homan, with sources saying agents could be sent to at least 14 airports nationwide — though exact locations haven’t been officially confirmed.

Bottom line for Jersey travelers: expect longer lines, delays, and tighter security as the situation continues to unfold.
