JETS RELEASE CORNERBACK ONE DAY AFTER WEED ARREST

Tae Hayes' brief tenure with the Jets has ended. On Monday, the Jets released the 26-year-old cornerback following his arrest in Alabama for marijuana possession on Sunday morning, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. Hayes, who is 5-foot-9 and 188 pounds, was booked and released after posting a $300 bond. The Jets issued a statement acknowledging the situation but declined further comment due to the pending legal matter.

Hayes was signed to the practice squad on October 3 and played against the Eagles in Week 6, recording two tackles. Initially signed by the Jaguars in 2019 as an undrafted free agent from Appalachian State, Hayes also played for the Dolphins, Panthers, Patriots, Vikings, and Ravens, totaling 14 career games with 18 tackles, one fumble recovery, and two passes defensed. He was a standout defensive back at Appalachian State after attending Decatur High School in Alabama.

Additionally, Hayes played for the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League and was part of their 2022 USFL championship team. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets in January and was expected to compete for a roster spot.
