MIDDLE TOWNSHIP TEACHER ACCUSED OF HAVING CHILD WITH HER STUDENT
A Middle township elementary school teacher accused of having a child with a student in 2019 appeared virtually for a court appearance on Thursday.
Laura Caron, 34, was taken into custody at a home on Orbit Drive on Wednesday in Cape May Court House.
Prosecutors allege Caron sexually assaulted a former student for several years and had his baby.
Authorities say the abuse began when the victim was 11 years old.
A few years later, Caron gave birth to the victim’s baby, according to the criminal complaint.
Court documents say the victim was 13 when he and Caron had the baby together. She was 28 years old at the time. Caron taught at Middle Township Elementary #2 and the victim was once her student.
Prosecutors say Caron and the victim’s family became friends. That led to the victim and his siblings staying overnight with Caron once or twice a week.
At some point, they began living with Caron permanently.
Investigators say the case came to light last month when the victim’s father posted on social media, saying Caron’s 5-year-old child looked very similar to him and his son.
