South Jersey saw multiple wildfires break out over the weekend, fueled by dry conditions and gusty winds.
In Gloucester Township, a brush fire near Erial Road and Primrose Lane ignited around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. More than 20 agencies, from local fire departments to state officials, responded swiftly, bringing the blaze under control and preventing any injuries or property damage, police said.
Meanwhile, in Pennsville Township, a wildfire erupted Saturday near Fort Mott Road, quickly spreading across 50 acres. At its peak, the fire threatened 12 structures, but crews managed to contain it by Saturday night, preventing any losses, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
In total, more than 40 acres burned in Gloucester Township, adding to the growing toll of wildfires in the region.
The National Weather Service warned on Sunday that South Jersey remains at an elevated wildfire risk due to low humidity and wind gusts reaching 25 mph. The state has been under a drought warning since November, following historically low precipitation levels in the fall, which have fueled wildfires throughout New Jersey.
