Nearly nine months after the March 26 drawing, the mystery Mega Millions winner has finally come forward to claim the $1.13 billion prize. So, who’s the lucky player?
Lottery officials confirmed that the ticket was purchased at a ShopRite in Neptune Township, New Jersey, but the winner’s identity will remain a secret.
Despite the extended wait, the winner chose to exercise their right to privacy, citing a 2020 New Jersey law that allows lottery winners to remain anonymous indefinitely.
The $1.13 billion prize, which ranks as the fifth-largest in Mega Millions history, will be paid out as a lump sum of $537.5 million before taxes.
