NJ MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER CHARGED WITH DISTRIBUTING EXPLICIT MATERIALS INVOLVING A MINOR
Hillsborough Man, Middle School Teacher, Arrested for Child Exploitation Offenses
Authorities in Somerset County arrested Matthew Serwedes, 48, of Hillsborough, for possessing and distributing explicit materials involving minors.
The New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force alerted the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office (SCPO) after a Cyber Tipline report identified Serwedes as the suspect. Detectives from the SCPO Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at his home, seizing electronic devices for forensic analysis.
Serwedes, a middle school teacher in Clark, was charged with second-degree distribution and third-degree possession of explicit materials involving minors. He remains jailed pending a detention hearing. Officials say no threats to his students have been identified, but the investigation is ongoing.
