NJ RENEWS PUSH FOR SIXERS TO MOVE ACROSS RIVER WITH CAMDEN ARENA SITE TOUR
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is continuing efforts to persuade the Philadelphia 76ers to move across the river by touring a proposed arena site in Camden with team owner David Adelman. The tour, which included local and state officials, aims to push the 76ers to consider building their new arena, 76er Place, in Camden. This comes as Philadelphia's Mayor Cherelle Parker supports a controversial $1.5 billion plan to build an 18,000-seat arena in the city's Market East neighborhood, near Chinatown, a project facing significant local opposition.
Opponents of the Market East proposal view the Camden tour as a tactic to pressure Philadelphia officials, while a Sixers spokesperson stated that the team is focused on Market East but must explore options for their new arena to meet deadlines for the 2031-32 NBA season. Despite this, Murphy and Camden officials continue to promote Camden's potential as an alternative site for the Sixers' new home.
