The proposed pricing is tied to the eight matches being held in New Jersey, with officials saying the goal is to cover event-related costs and avoid putting the burden on taxpayers.

However, the plan is already drawing criticism. Regular commuters could also be impacted, with access to Penn Station restricted for several hours before matches.

Similar price hikes are happening in other host cities, raising concerns that transportation costs are becoming part of the overall World Cup sticker shock.
